Rocco Robert Sergio

September 4, 1932 - April 8, 2022

Dr. Rocco Robert Sergio was born Sept 4, 1932 in Brooklyn, NY. He crossed over to the heavenly realm April 8, 2022. Rocco lived a full life before passing away at the ripe old age of 89. Born to Lawrence and Elizabeth Sergio, Italian immigrants who came to this country during the early 1900s. Rocco was a musician and music teacher, having received his PhD in music from Columbia University. In his earlier years, he was an AKC dog judge, and founded Bella Mu Show Dogs. For Rocco, “Bella Mu” was short for “beautiful music.” Rocco loved the NY Yankees, vanilla Breyers ice cream and the classic TV shows, Bonanza, Gunsmoke and The Andy Griffith Show. He also was a big fan of murder mysteries. In 1960 he married music teacher Ann Josephine Kelly. Together for 61 years they shared a love for teaching music to young children. The Sergio School of Music has its roots on Long Island, and later expanded to Wellington, Florida, where they resided for over 10 years before moving back to Long Island to be closer to family. Rocco and Ann shared a very strong bond, which included working together as music teachers and business partners. It was very rare to see one without the other. Their life was centered around music education, dogs and family. Not necessarily in that order. Both Rocco and Ann believed that music education helped children to develop and excel academically, and in other parts of their lives. Rocco had four children – Joseph, Maggie, the late Robert Sergio and Mary. In addition, he had five grandchildren; Robbie, Dianna, Elizabeth, Erin and Liam, and five great grandchildren. For individuals looking for a way to honor Rocco, charitable donations can be made in his memory to the Norwell Health Hospice Care Network. https://support.northwell.edu/donate-to-northwell-health
