In Loving Memory of Narrie Erica Carter Bailey Affectionately Known as "Pa Narr" and "Sister Narrie" Sunrise: July 8, 1938 Sunset: July 15, 2026 "Happy are those conscious of their spiritual need." — Matthew 5:3 Narrie Erica Carter Bailey, affectionately known as "Pa Narr" by her children and "Sister Narrie" by her spiritual family and many friends, was born on July 8, 1938, in the quiet rural district of Olive River, Trelawny, Jamaica. She was the fourth child born to Claudius Carter and Rebortha Smith. From childhood, Narrie displayed the qualities that would define her life—humility, diligence, compassion, and an unwavering willingness to help others. As her mother's faithful helper, she learned the value of hard work, self-sacrifice, and caring for family. After attending Lowe River Primary School, she looked toward the future with determination and a desire to build a better life. Before beginning her own family, Narrie's remarkable capacity for love and responsibility was already evident. Following the tragic death of her sister during childbirth, she lovingly took her newborn nephew, Bobbsey, into her care. Though still a young woman herself, she embraced the responsibility of raising him with unwavering devotion. Bobbsey became the first child entrusted to her care, and she remained a constant source of love, guidance, and support throughout her life, continuing to care for him until her passing. Seeing Narrie devoted herself so faithfully to Bobbsey, one of her aunts arranged for her to learn sewing as a means of earning an income. Although she appreciated the opportunity, Jehovah opened another path for her. During those early years, she welcomed her first two sons, Kirby and Wayne, whose lives became a powerful motivation for her tireless efforts. Seeking greater opportunities, Narrie moved to Spanish Town, where she worked as a domestic helper during the day and attended school at night to complete her secondary education. While there, she was blessed with three more children—Hopie, Faye, and Glen. As her family grew, so did her determination to provide them with every opportunity possible. Later, Narrie's journey took her to Kingston, where she worked as a nanny for a family who recognized her potential and encouraged her to continue her education. Inspired by their confidence in her, she returned to school and qualified as a Practical Nurse. During this period, she welcomed her son Michael. Like many loving parents, Narrie made difficult sacrifices for the benefit of her family. While pursuing employment, she entrusted the daily care of her children to her beloved mother in Trelawny. Though separated by distance, she remained deeply devoted to them, faithfully providing financial support and ensuring their needs were met. Her sacrifices were always motivated by love and the hope of giving her children a brighter future. Later, Narrie welcomed her youngest son, Andrew, completing the family that remained the greatest treasure of her earthly life. Throughout the years, she also cared devotedly for her beloved mother, reflecting the selfless love, compassion, and sense of responsibility that characterized everything she did. Narrie possessed an exceptional work ethic. Along with her nursing career, she operated a neighborhood grocery shop from her home. With the generous support of her son Wayne, who purchased the freezer that helped launch the business, she was able to provide even more for her family. She firmly believed that honest, diligent work, together with Jehovah's blessing, would provide what her family needed. In 1990, Narrie was blessed with the opportunity to migrate to the United States. Although she was unable to continue nursing immediately because additional certification was required, she willingly accepted employment in the laundry department at Hilaire Nursing Home. She approached every assignment with humility and excellence, earning the respect of those around her. Through Jehovah's blessing on her hard work, she was able to assist several of her children in establishing their lives in the United States—a source of tremendous joy and satisfaction for her. Yet, of all the accomplishments in her life, none meant more to Narrie than her friendship with Jehovah. Her faith shaped her decisions, strengthened her through life's trials, and guided the way she treated others. She found genuine happiness in serving Jehovah and sharing the Bible's comforting message with those she met. After retiring, she devoted even more time to the Christian ministry and deeply cherished the encouragement and association of her spiritual brothers and sisters. Even after suffering a stroke, Narrie's faith remained steadfast. Rather than allowing her physical limitations to define her, she leaned even more heavily on Jehovah. Whenever her health permitted, she faithfully attended Christian meetings, shared her hope with others, and continued to demonstrate quiet endurance and complete trust in Jehovah. Those who knew Narrie will remember her gentle smile, quiet strength, generous heart, unwavering faith, and deep love for her family. She taught, not merely with words but by her example, that a successful life is measured by faithful endurance, loving service to others, and loyalty to Jehovah. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Cleveland Bailey. She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted children: Robert ("Kirby"), Wayne, Hopie (Millicent), Faye (Jacqueline), Glen (Giddion), Michael, and Andrew; her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her only surviving brother, Vincent ("Kenneth") Smith; her nieces and nephews; many relatives and dear friends; and a large, loving spiritual family who will greatly miss her. Although our hearts are saddened by her passing, we are comforted by Jehovah's sure promises found at John 5:28, 29 and Acts 24:15, which assure us that those sleeping in death will live again. We eagerly await the joyful day when Narrie Erica Carter Bailey will answer Jehovah's call and awaken in the righteous new world He has promised—a world where sickness, pain, sorrow, and death will never again exist. Until that wonderful reunion, Narrie's life of faith, love, sacrifice, and loyal endurance will continue to inspire all who were privileged to know and love her.
